Making care accessible for Hispanic patients

September 24, 2025

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Evergreen is proud to celebrate Western New York’s Hispanic community and to provide culturally competent care to our Hispanic patients.

Many Hispanic folks have a harder time accessing health care compared to the general population: according to the National Institutes on Health, Hispanic patients face more discrimination and feel less trusting of the healthcare industry, which leads them to face worse health outcomes.

We’re dedicated to improving the health of Hispanic patients throughout Western New York through culturally competent and accessible care. Our staff that reflects the community we serve: around 13% of our patients identify as Hispanic, and around 14% of our staff identify as Hispanic. We also offer free language translation services so that our Hispanic patients can feel fully understood and cared for by their providers.

Language shouldn’t be a barrier to health care. If you’re a Spanish speaking person and need to get services in your own language, we have bilingual folks on our phone and front desk teams, as well as our Primary Care and Specialty Care teams, who can help you use our services in Spanish (or any language). You can also trust that any important messages from Evergreen, like closure announcements and monthly email updates, will be sent out in both English and Spanish.

Language shouldn’t be a barrier to health care.

If you need more support with finding other services or resources in Spanish, our Care Coordination team’s bilingual staff members can help eligible patients schedule appointments, get help with insurance and billing, and advocate for their care.

Our programs for Hispanic communities

Evergreen and our affiliates provide programs especially for communities of color, including Hispanic communities. From 2004 to 2012, our affiliate Community Access Services (at the time named Alianza Latina) provided HIV prevention services to Buffalo’s Hispanic and Latino communities. CAS adopted the name Community Access Services in 2012 as the people they served expanded from primarily Latinos to all communities of color who are disproportionately impacted by HIV.

Today, Community Access Services’ mission remains to empower communities of color by connecting them to quality, culturally competent medical care and supportive services.

MOCHA, our program for LGBTQ+ people of color, also provides a variety of community and support groups, health and wellness resources and education for LGBTQ+ people from communities of color.

We’re accepting new adult Primary Care patients at all our locations, and new Pediatric Care patients at 800 Hertel Ave.
