Drug User Services

Whether you want to quit using drugs or just regain some control, Evergreen Health is here for you. On a daily basis, our team provides clean injection equipment, Naloxone/Narcan training, HIV and hepatitis C testing, counseling, medication and most importantly, the respect and dignity that you deserve.

We use a Harm Reduction Model

We provide the tools and services needed for our patients to reach their goals, but we don’t force our patients to do or be anything in order to come to Evergreen. Our harm reduction model means that we want our patients to make their own health and wellness decisions.

Our team will help you be safe, improve your health and reduce the risk of overdose. Our services include:

Syringe Exchange

  • Locations in Buffalo and Jamestown
  • Mobile Syringe Exchange serving all eight counties of WNY
  • Access to clean syringes and injection works
  • Free and confidential
  • Safer injection and after wound care information and education
  • Walk-in—no appointment needed!

Substance and drug use treatment

  • Buprenorphine (also referred to as Suboxone) treatment program to manage opioid dependence
  • For people who would like to reduce drug use or quit
  • Other programs available, including substance use counseling and medication-assisted treatment

Overdose prevention training and fentanyl test strips

  • Free Narcan kits to reverse the effects of overdose from opioids, such as heroin, fentanyl or prescription pain medications
  • Training takes less than 10 minutes
  • Fentanyl test strips available
  • Walk-ins are always welcome

Anti-stigma and harm reduction education

  • Health fairs
  • Community events
  • Proponent of the harm reduction model and eliminating stigma
  • Contact us to speak or table at future events

Hepatitis C patient navigation

  • Hepatitis C testing, treatment, pharmacy services, counseling and more

Advocacy and support groups

  • Advocacy extends throughout the region and in Albany for initiatives to remove barriers and increase accessibility to care for people who use drugs or other substances
  • We provide a safe and non-judgmental space for patients, with either group or individual counseling, where we celebrate all positive change – big and small.
