HIV Prevention & PrEP

Evergreen Health is committed to providing HIV education and prevention services to the Buffalo, Jamestown and Western New York (WNY) community. We offer HIV testing and treatment, and are the leading provider for the HIV prevention drug PrEP in WNY.

Prevent HIV with PrEP

Prevent HIV with PrEP (short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), a prescription drug that, when taken as directed, greatly reduces your risk of becoming HIV positive.

Who is PrEP for?

PrEP is for HIV negative individuals who want to take control of their health and reduce their risk of becoming HIV positive. PrEP is recommended for people who:

  • have sex with multiple and/or anonymous partners
  • have sex regularly or sometimes without a condom
  • are not sure of their sex partners’ HIV status
  • have recently been diagnosed with an STI/STD
  • use injection and/or mood altering drugs such as methamphetamine, cocaine or ecstasy

Anyone interested in PrEP should contact us to speak with one of our friendly PrEP specialists.

How much does PrEP cost?

Insurance plans in New York State include coverage for PrEP. We can assist you with insurance provider navigation. Most people who see an Evergreen provider and use our pharmacy pay $0 out of pocket.

Do you think you may have been recently exposed to HIV? We offer PEP.

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is a way to prevent HIV infection after a recent possible exposure to the virus. PEP works best if it’s given within 36 hours after you were exposed. If it has been longer than 36 hours, it is still recommended you come in for testing and an assessment.

Call Evergreen Health’s PEP Hotline at 716.541.0676 to receive PEP through our Pharmacy. Our PEP Hotline team will connect you with one of our STI nurses. Please bring your insurance card and photo ID.

If after hours, go to your local emergency room or urgent care immediately and ask for PEP.

Free condoms

The use of condoms is a highly effective way to prevent spreading HIV and other STIs (also referred to as STDs). PrEP does not protect against sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea or syphilis.

Evergreen offers free condoms every day!

HIV testing

It’s important to know your HIV status. HIV often doesn’t have any symptoms, so the only way you can know if you have HIV is to get tested.

We offer HIV testing in our testing clinics. You will know your results in 20 minutes. Learn more about our testing services.

More than just medical care

We have a wide range of programs and services that will help you live your healthiest life. These services include:
