Reimagined “Dining Out For Life” Encourages Ordering Takeout and Eating at Home to Benefit Local Restaurant Industry

Save the date: 18th Dining Out For Life to Take Place October 13

BUFFALO, NY – ‘Dining Out For Life,’ the national food and drink fundraising event and Western New York’s largest annual HIV fundraiser, will be reimagined as a takeout event that benefits the local restaurant industry, on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020. Instead of the nearly 60 participating establishments giving a portion of their Dining Out For Life sales to Evergreen Health, all revenue will stay with the restaurants.

“We are so thankful to the many restaurants across Erie, Niagara and Chautauqua Counties that have supported Evergreen and our HIV services over the last eighteen years of Dining Out For Life,” said Rob Baird, director of advancement at Evergreen Health. “This year, we’re dining out and giving back in a new way–by ordering takeout and eating at home–to thank and support the local restaurant industry, which has been hit especially hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Historically, Dining Out For Life is a food and drink event through which, by dining out at local restaurants, patrons donate to community-based organizations serving people living with or impacted by HIV, and, in Western New York, 25% or more of food and drink purchases are given to beneficiary Evergreen Health. Dining Out For Life WNY participants are welcome to make a separate donation to support Evergreen’s HIV prevention and treatment services here.

Dining Out For Life WNY and beneficiary Evergreen Health are reimagining the annual event, so Western New Yorkers can enjoy food and drink while supporting local restaurants safely and in accordance with social distancing. In addition to encouraging takeout orders, Dining Out For Life WNY is utilizing virtual ambassadors, in lieu of in-person ambassadors, who will promote ordering takeout and the purchase of gift cards from each restaurant on October 13th.

Dining Out For Life WNY has raised more than $1,250,000 to provide services for those in Western New York living with HIV. KeyBank has signed on as presenting sponsor for Dining Out For Life for the fifth consecutive year and will match, dollar for dollar, money donated to Evergreen Health by diners the night of the event, up to $12,000.

In addition to ordering takeout, participants are encouraged to support Evergreen Health, with the opportunity to win prizes. Donations to Evergreen Health’s HIV services on October 13th-31st will be entered to win one of several great raffle prizes, including:

  • Two round-trip tickets on JetBlue
  • A private tasting and tour for six at Lockhouse Distilling
  • Holiday themed bike pedal tour by Buffalo Pedal Tours
  • One of five $100 gift certificates to a DOFL restaurant of your choosing, sponsored by Lawley Insurance

Additional information about Dining Out For Life, including the full list of participating restaurants, is available at www.DiningOutForLife.com/WNY. Fortuna’s Restaurant will participate on Wednesday, October 14th, instead of Tuesday, October 13th.
